On Saturday 20th April, this vital new access to Churton Park was officially opened by the Mayor of Wellington, Celia Wade-Brown. Despite the damp conditions, a big crowd turned out for the ceremony, with many taking the opportunity to walk along the new road. Residents of Halswater Drive and Burbank Crescent, who have waited for many years for this day, will be very pleased with traffic now flowing along the new link, rather than along some narrow streets. Although traffic has been using the road since Sunday morning, there is still a lot of final tidying up required, especially with planting a very large number of trees and shrubs, to soften and stabilise the large areas of earthworks.

To mark the occasion, a Festival was held at the Shopping Centre, with a variety of stalls and activities. Despite the weather, it was a very successful venture.
