Special Housing Areas (SHAs) have special consenting and approval processes intended to speed up development. These include proactive council pre-application processes, fast-tracked consenting and limited notification and appeals. As part of the government's housing accord, the whole of Stebbings Valley was established last year as a SHA. At the Council meeting on 8 April, additional areas in Wellington have been established as SHA's as publicised in the newspaper. The Churton Park areas are as follows:

These blocks of undeveloped land are adjacent to the developed areas of Churton Park. As far as the committee has been able to determine, the main effect of this change relates to the consenting process for land subdivision only, with lot sizes and housing density still controlled as previously.
